CSS - Education, skills and responsibilities of a patent attorney: law firm vs. inhouse

Abstract:

The presentation is focused on the training and education required for becoming a German and European patent attorney. In addition, the skills and responsibilities of a patent attorney are discussed with particular regard to the difference between working for a law firm and being an in-house attorney.

About the speaker: Per studied Biology at the Philipps University Marburg and did his PhD at the MPI of Biochemistry, Martinsried, from 2004 - 2010. After a short Postdoc at the Scripps Research Insitute and Salk Institute (La Jolla), he started his patent attorney training at the law firm “Viering, Jentschura & Partner mbB“. He continued to work for that firm until 2017 when he switched to a job as in-house counsel for “Euroimmun”. Since 2022 he is employed as Senior Patent Counsel at BASF, Ludwigshafen.
