In contrast to bacteria and eukaryotes, the cell
biology of archaea is vastly understudied. I will discuss our work on
discovering new components of the FtsZ-based archaeal cell division machinery in
halophilic archaea and the structure and function of archaeal surface
appendages in motility, surface adhesion, biofilm formation and DNA transfer.
