Our ‘United in BIO:Diversity’ initiative encompasses a variety of offers and activities to foster a thriving working community at the institutes, to build closer connections between our scientific and administrative staff, and to improve our intercultural understanding.

Our activities:

Diversity day

An in-house open day for everyone at the Max Planck Institute for Biology Tübingen and the Friedrich Miescher Laboratory to interact, learn about each other's work, and promote mutual understanding and respect. more

Foods of the world

A cooking club which gives employees the chance to introduce culinary specialties from their home countries to others at the institute.

Intercultural calendar

The institute’s Intercultural Calendar includes holidays and celebrations from different cultures and religions and explains their significance.

Language tandems

Learn a language and make a new friend at the Institute – that’s the idea behind our language tandems. A language tandem offers the possibility to speak a language you are interested in practicing, while better getting to know your colleagues. Many of our tandem pairs bring together our scientific and administrative staff.

Diversity library

A collection of books about different aspects of diversity in English and German for everyone to read. We currently have 16 titles, covering ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability and work-life balance.
